Cakes go down a treat for Jeans for Genes Day and MacMillan Coffee Morning

Over the last couple of weeks, all of the staff at Lesley Cree Opticians have done a great job in getting behind Genes for Jeans day on Friday the 20th of September and MacMillan Coffee Morning on Friday the 27th of September.

All the staff who were working on the first Friday wore jeans and brought in freshly baked cakes to help raise some money and for customers to enjoy. All the funds raised go towards children who are affected by any one of the 6000 genetic disorders that are out there.

It is estimated that around one in 25 children are affected by a genetic disorder. 30,000 babies and children are newly diagnosed in the UK each year.

Some genetic disorders are apparent at birth while others are diagnosed at different stages throughout childhood, and sometimes into adolescence. This emphasises the importance of generating an increased awareness of this valuable charity and is why we are committed to do all we can to help!

The following Friday we joined in with the worlds biggest coffee morning in what is MacMillans biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. Through the combined efforts of companies across the globe, MacMillan managed to raise over £27 million last year! This invaluable money helps MacMillan support individuals with cancer right from the moment of diagnosis, through to treatment and beyond.

Sue, our receptionist, baked some delicious white chocolate and apple rocky road which went down a storm with our patients with all of them being snapped up in the morning! As we have recently purchased a brand new coffee machine we were able to offer customers a variety of coffee including cappuccino, latte, americano etc which also went down a treat. It was a fantastic day with a great buzz throughout the practice as it’s not every day you get the opportunity to raise money for a great cause!
