Carnival frolicks

As usual, the team here at Lesley Cree Opticians got in the carnival spirit for the 2018 Radcliffe on Trent Carnival. This year, this annual event held on Saturday 14 July, held even greater importance for the practice because Lesley was delighted to have been chosen for a very important role!

Yes, Lesley was chosen to be a co-judge of the floats that took part in the carnival procession alongside Mr J Starr, Deputy head at Radcliffe Junior school, and Simon Wynne, who is the landlord at the Royal Oak.

There were four categories of floats -‘motorised’ and ‘walking’ floats, and adults and children’s walking groups. The winners were:

MOTORISED FLOATS
1st Place Radcliffe Methodist Church
2nd Place United Schools Samba Band

ADULT WALKING GROUPS
1st Place Radcliffe Netball Group
2nd Place Phoenix Signing Choir

CHILDREN’S WALKING GROUPS
1st Place Radcliffe on Trent Girl Guiding
2nd Place Radcliffe on Trent Pre-School Playgroup
3rd Place Simply Dance Nottingham
3rd Place Radcliffe Olympic FC

WALKING FLOAT
22nd Nottingham Boys Brigade

We also took part in the shop window competition. Many shop owners in the village dressed their shop windows in the carnival theme which had to be based on festivals of the world. Our shop window was based on [INSERT WHAT FESTIVAL] and was voted 3rd best display by the panel of judges. We also served Pimms, chocolate brownies and strawberries to people passing by from our table stand outside the practice.

The Carnival really is a highlight of Summer for our village, and the weather ensured another great family event which benefits everyone in Radcliffe, particularly as the money raised goes into supporting the local groups and charities.
