College of Optometrists accolades

Lesley Cree Opticians in Radcliffe-on-Trent is ending 2016 on a high having successfully achieved two prestigious accolades from The College of Optometrists.

Firstly, the practice is celebrating Ruth Bennett’s appointment as the Deputy Lead Assessor. Having completed 6 years working as an Assessor for The College of Optometrists, Ruth will now take up a senior level position within the assessment process.

In addition, practice owner Lesley Cree, who is already a qualified optician and member of the College of Optometrists, has been successful in completing part II of the Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) qualification.  This means the practice is now accredited to carry out assessment of minor eye conditions such as red or painful eyes, macular degeneration, flashes and floaters or dry eyes that may previously have entailed a visit to the eye hospital

Commenting on her appointment Ruth said “It is an honour and privilege to be asked to carry out such an important role. Assessors for the College visit graduate optometrists in their workplace and judge how they are performing over the whole scope of their clinical practice to make sure that professional high standards are upheld

Discussing her new qualification, Lesley said “We are committed to providing the very best service to our patients and now that both Ruth and I are able to treat minor eye conditions, patients with these eye conditions can be seen and treated much quicker and saved from the inconvenience of travelling to hospital.”

These achievements have culminated an already successful year for Lesley Cree. The practice was a finalist in the Nottingham Post Women in Business Awards and is developing a new online and events business selling designer sunglasses called “Sunnies” which was launched at the ATP Tennis tournament in June.

The College of Optometrists is the professional, scientific and examining body for optometry in the UK, working for the public benefit. Its main responsibilities are to support its members in helping to facilitate all aspects of professional development.
