Lesley Cree Opticians supports GB Swans AFL dream

Six local Nottingham ladies who play Aussie Rules Football have been selected to represent Great Britain in this year’s AFL International Cup held in Melbourne. They have been supported in their awareness raising activities by Lesley Cree Opticians based in Radcliffe on Trent.

Known for supporting local charitable causes, the Lesley Cree Opticians shop front window has become an ongoing talking point within the Radcliffe-On-Trent community due to its ever changing and remarkable window displays. Ever open to ideas, the practice has pledged its support by displaying equipment and merchandise related to the GB Swans forthcoming trip down under to play in the Tournament which takes place in August.

Rania Ramadan, Laura Turner, Alexandra Saulter, Dannielle Saulter, Lea Cobham and Beth Bailey will all travel to Melbourne to represent the GB Swans in the sixth Aussie Rules International Tournament. With popularity of Australian football overseas continuing to grow overseas the GB team will face Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Fiji, USA, Ireland and the current champions Canada.

The GB Swans team receives very little sponsorship meaning that the ladies have to pay travel, accommodation and kit costs of approximately £2000 each.

Commenting on her support, owner Lesley Cree said “Where we can, we like to support charities or local groups that are a little different to the norm. When asked to help publicise Aussie Rules Football and the fact four residents of Radcliffe had been selected to play for the GB Swans, we were more than happy to use our shop window to help them fund raise to represent Great Britain in Australia.”

To help fund travel and equipment costs, the ladies have created their own fundraising page https://www.gofundme.com/gbswansnotts and would be greatly appreciative of any donations.
