We will be showcasing the new season designer styles with 10% discount off all current models, as well as offering larger discounts on last years models. Come along and try on some new Sunnies whilst enjoying a glass of bubbly!! When the sun comes out, in addition to applying sunscreen to our skin, it is important to remember then need to sunglasses in order to protect your eyes.

Sunglasses perform two primary functions;

1) Blocking Invisible UV Radiation

UV radiation is invisible but exposure is cumulative and may not show its effect for many years. Long-term UV exposure to the eyes has been linked to damaging both the inside of the eyes e.g. cataracts and macular degeneration; but also to the external eye.

Consequently, those patients who have had cataract surgery; and those with macular degeneration are particularly recommended to protect their eyes from UV exposure.

For your protection only wear sunglasses displaying the CE kite mark and guaranteeing to absorb 100% UVA and UVB.

Don’t forget your children – They are more vulnerable to UV because of their larger pupils and clearer crystalline lens.

2) Reducing the intensity of Visible Light

The brightness of the sun is what causes us to squint our eyes to reduce the amount of visible light entering our eyes.

We reduce the amount, or brightness, of light by the depth and colour of the tint on our sunglasses. Tints are measured by the amount of light they allow to pass through the lens with most sunglasses allowing 15% of all visible light to pass through. This same depth of tint is available in all colours; grey, brown, green etc.

POLARIZING lenses in sunglasses cut out all glare from horizontal surfaces. They are especially effective against glare for driving and water sports.

WRAP frames are curved to bow around the face and reduce light and the elements entering the eyes from the sides. They are often used in sports sunglasses designs.

People who wear glasses can wear sunglasses too – almost all of our sunglasses can be made up to any prescription: distance, reading, bifocals or varifocals. Prescription sunglasses start from £110 complete.

Call in to our practice in Radcliffe on Trent (opposite the Co-op) to look at our fabulous range of sunglasses; all our sunglasses are 100% UV absorbing, with prices starting from £50 up to our designer ranges including Tom Ford, Tiffany, Gucci, Ray-Ban, Oakley, Maui Jim.
