Lesley Cree Opticians is celebrating World Sight Day by supporting the campaign to encourage more people to get their eyes tested on a regular basis.
World Sight Day is an initiative created by The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) to encourage one million people to pledge to have a sight test.
This year, World Sight Day will be celebrated on Thursday 14th October and the theme for the initiative will be #LoveYourEyes.
#LoveYourEyes is all about being aware of your own eye health and if you are able to, get a sight test or recommend others do the same.
According to data published by the NHS, nearly 3.4 million eyesight tests were conducted in England in 2020. The stats also show that 69% of the population wear glasses and 13% wear contact lenses.
The data also revealed that only 8% of UK adults had not been for a sight test for at least 10 years or could not recall when they last went.
Lesley Cree Opticians is taking this opportunity to remind people of the importance of having a regular sight test every two years.
More than 50 per cent of sight loss is preventable, so getting your eyes tested by your local opticians can help prevent, or limit, the damage caused by certain eye conditions.
Lesley Cree Opticians have invested in a brand-new, state-of-the-art laser Optos eye scanner to provide the best in eye heath care for our patients.
The Optos scanner is currently one of only 15 machines in the country, and combines both an OCT scan, and an ultra-wide image of the retina known as an Optomap. Whereby traditional methods typically reveal only 15% of the retina at one time, the Optomap captures more than 80% of the retina in one panoramic image.
If you are concerned about your eyesight and want to book an appointment to have you eyes tested you can do so via our online booking form, or alternatively you can ring the practice on 0115 9332999.
