New designer sunglasses business launched at Nottingham Tennis Open

Lesley Cree Opticians has capitalised on the fact Nottingham is hosting the Pre-Wimbledon ATP tennis championships to launch our new business venture selling designer sunglasses in pop up shops at major UK sporting events.

The new  business which has been branded “Sunnies “ was launched at the tennis championship’s which started with the women’s tournament from 4 to 12 June and the Men’s tournament between 18 and 25 June. Our pop up shop was located in the tented village and displayed a range of designer sunglasses from top brands that include Rayban, Oakley, Tom Ford, Gucci, Maui Jim and Tiffany.

Sponsored by Aegon and hosted by Nottingham Tennis Centre, the event attracts over 150 tennis professionals including top Brits Heather Watson and Laura Robson, and generally attracts large crowds.

Commenting on her new business and brand launch, Lesley Cree said, “I was looking at ways to expand the business and thought selling designer sunglasses at sporting events would increase sales of sunglasses, raise our brand awareness and attract new customers into the practice in Radcliffe on Trent for eye tests who may later buy contact lens, prescription lenses and other designer spectacle frames.”

She continued, “Sunglasses are now worn by many sports professionals to improve vision and performance. As well protecting eyes from harmful sun rays, sunglasses are now a vital fashion accessory and the pop up village at the Tennis open is an ideal launch pad for this new venture.”

The new business will be promoted at other UK wide sporting events and a new e-commerce website is planned for Autumn 2016 to enable customers to buy on line after the event.  It will be run by Lesley’s son, Ben  who recently graduated from Leeds University with a BSc Business Management degree.

Commenting, Ben  said, “Joining the family business is really exciting. I am currently working in the practice to learn about eye care, dispensing and of course sunglasses!”
