At Lesley Cree Opticians, we’re proud to support the Association of Optometrists’ latest awareness campaign, “You Won’t See It Coming”, which shines a spotlight on glaucoma – a condition that could be silently threatening your vision.
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of preventable sight loss in the UK and worldwide. What makes it so dangerous is that it often develops without any obvious symptoms. In fact, up to half of all people living with glaucoma don’t even know they have it. That’s why the AOP’s message is clear: one simple sight test could save your vision.
Glaucoma Hides in Plain Sight
Glaucoma damages the optic nerve, which connects your eyes to your brain. Over time, this damage can lead to permanent vision loss. Because the condition usually develops gradually and painlessly, people often don’t notice a change in their vision until significant and irreversible damage has occurred.
This is what makes glaucoma so difficult to catch without regular eye exams. The only way to detect it early is through a professional sight test that includes checking the pressure inside your eyes and examining the health of your optic nerve.
Don’t Wait for Symptoms – Book a Test
The good news is that glaucoma can be managed if caught early. Treatments are available to help control eye pressure and slow the progression of the disease. But early diagnosis is critical.
At Lesley Cree Opticians, we’re urging our patients and community to take proactive steps to protect their eye health. A routine eye examination – even if you think your vision is fine – could detect glaucoma before it begins to impact your sight.
We also echo the AOP’s call for change. Currently, access to glaucoma diagnosis and treatment varies depending on where you live in the UK. This postcode lottery puts thousands at unnecessary risk. We support the AOP’s campaign for consistent, accessible, and sight-saving care for everyone.
Take Action Today
- Book a sight test– If it’s been more than two years since your last eye exam, don’t delay.
- Talk to your family– Glaucoma can run in families. Encourage loved ones, especially those over 40, to get their eyes checked.
- Support the campaign– Visit the AOP’s website to learn more and see how you can help spread the message.

Your vision matters. At Lesley Cree Opticians, we’re here to help protect it — because with glaucoma, you won’t see it coming… but we can.
Advanced Technology for Early Detection
At Lesley Cree Opticians Radcliffe practice, we use the Optos Monaco eye scanner – one of the most advanced diagnostic tools available – to help detect the earliest signs of glaucoma and other eye conditions. This cutting-edge technology combines ultra-widefield retinal imaging with OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), allowing us to view more of the back of your eye in incredible detail. At our Keyworth and Ruddington practices we use digital photography and OCT scanning to analyse the retina in detail. We are able to identify even the smallest changes or abnormalities that could indicate the onset of glaucoma, often before any symptoms appear. The scans are quick, non-invasive, and gives our expert team the best chance of catching potential risks early – helping to protect your vision for the long term.
If you have any concerns about your eye health, early detection is key to preventing vision loss. Schedule an appointment at one of our practices today:
