Carnival goer wins Rayban sunglasses

Radcliffe on Trent Infant School pupil Dillon Carrington aged five had more reasons than most to toast the success of this year’s Radcliffe on Trent Carnival as he was the lucky winner of a pair of children’s Rayban sunglasses in a competition run by Lesley Cree Opticians.

Since the boutique opticians opened in July 2012, owner Lesley Cree, has been doing a local school tours to give presentations on eye care and highlighting the dangers of UV Rays on children’s eyes. The competition was another way to help get this important message across to children and parents.

Commenting Lesley said, “In a recent survey it was identified that only three percent of children regularly wear sun protection for their eyes. This is really worrying as young children have large pupils and extremely clear lenses that let in lots of UV light. As a result, by the time they are 18, it is thought they have received over 80 per cent of their lifetime exposure to UV Rays, which could be very damaging to their eyes.”

During carnival week, Lesley Cree chose  “laugh out loud” for their shop window theme and dressed manikins of famous people wearing novelty glasses in a “make a spectacle of yourself” montage.

The winner of the competition was the person who guessed the names of the celebrities correctly. The shortlisted entries were invited to the Lesley Cree Opticians boutique last week to witness the prize draw and see the lucky winner presented with their sunglasses.

Dillon chose a Wayfayer model of Rayban sunglasses in black and will be proudly wearing them throughout the summer holidays.
