Lesley Cree Opticians receptionist raises £3000 for RNIB in London Marathon

Lesley Cree Opticians receptionist, Sarah Dexter, took part in the London Marathon on Sunday 28 April and has raised over £3,000 for The Royal National Institute for the Blind.

Running alongside 40,000 other participants, Sarah, who lives in Radcliffe-on-Trent completed the 26-mile course in 4 hours 57 minutes.

Lesley Cree Opticians London Marathon 2019Sarah was chosen to run on behalf of RNIB having pledged to raise at least £3,000. In preparation she trained with the other runners selected to take part in the marathon on behalf of RNIB. To meet her target, Sarah set up a just giving page, had a cake sale and ran a raffle competition to win an exclusive pair of Ray-Ban Sunglasses which were donated by Lesley Cree Opticians.

Commenting on the race, Sarah stated “The opportunity and challenge to run the London Marathon was completely new to me. It was a very tough run, but I hope that the funding we’ve managed to raise will help those who have recently lost their sight.”

The Royal National Institute of Blind People is one of the UK’s leading sight loss charities offering information, support and advice to almost two million people in the UK with sight loss.

Every day 250 people start to lose their sight. The RNIB help people who have lost their sight to find their lives again, by providing emotional support, expert advice and practical products – enabling people to live independently and enjoy everyday life.
