The good frame guide

So, you’ve finally admitted you need glasses and despite putting it off, either your arms are no longer long enough to read a document at short distance or the squint is just not helping make objects in the distance any clearer.

A visit to the opticians confirms it, and you now have your prescription – but how do you adjust to having to wear glasses and, more importantly, gain confidence from wearing them?

According to Lesley Cree, the secret lies in selecting a frame that will accentuate your good features. A good pair can take years off your face and make you feel proud to them show off, whereas a pair of bad specs will not only sabotage your look, it could also knock your confidence.

The following is a guide to the frame types that suit some facial features, but this is by no means set in stone. This is why we have such a fabulous range of frames on display for you to browse and why our experts are on hand to advise you on frame choice.

ROUND FACE

People with a round face may find that wearing square shaped frames helps give their face more definition.

SLIM FACE

If you have a slim face, it’s best to look for frames that are rounded. Choosing a design that has retro pins on the corners will also help to open up your face and make it look wider.

OVAL FACE

An oval face can be made to look shorter by wearing a deeper frame.

PROMINENT FEATURES

Wearing glasses that have a slightly dipped bridge across the nose can help to have a reducing effect on a large nose.

SUN PROTECTION

It’s really important to wear sunglasses in direct sunlight as the UV rays can damage your eyes. You can either choose light sensitive lenses, or have a separate prescription pair with darkened lenses.
